Stanstead Passports, Silent Auction and T-Day Raffle

Supporting T-Day

By: Michelle Lepitre

Planning the activities for a one-day festival such as Townshippers’ Day may seem simple, but it is nonetheless a huge undertaking for both the organizing committee and Townshippers’ Association… An equally large (and time-intensive)  task, however, is raising the money to help cover the costs of such a festival, a task which often becomes the responsibility of the host town’s volunteer organizing committee. The team in Stanstead rose to the challenge enthusiastically this year, and has developed some inventive (and interesting) ways that visitors can help to ensure the financial success of the Day.

Stanstead Passports

Visitors to Townshippers’ Day this year will be invited to purchase a very special Stanstead Passport for the low price of only 2$. This passport will be available at the site’s entrance, as well as at the information booth. With the passport, visitors will have access to the shuttle buses running between the SEVEN different sites where activities are taking place: the Stanstead Manor, the Pat Burns Arena, the Colby Curtis Museum, the Vieux Forgeron Art Gallery, GranitCentral, the Haskell Opera House and the Stone Circle. The passport will also double as the day’s program, including information about the day’s main activities and entertainment.

Townshippers will be encouraged to stop at each of the seven locations in the town of Stanstead, both to explore and to have their passports stamped. At the end of the day, visitors with a fully-stamped passport can visit the information booth to receive a ticket for a special drawing. The drawing will be held at the Townshippers’ Association head office on Monday, September 19 and one winner will be chosen from amongst the names entered in the draw.

T-Day Silent Auction

Back again for 2011, the T-Day Silent Auction will be sure to delight visitors. Stop by the Chapel in the Stanstead Manor to see all of the wonderful donated items and pick a few to bid on! It’s a great way to discover some of the many goods and services available in our region!

The auction will open at 9 a.m. and close at 3 p.m. Proceeds from the auction will go towards various Townshippers’ Association projects, including Youth Townships and Townshippers’ Day; your support is greatly appreciated.

The Great Rock Raffle

Fundraising for this year’s Townshippers’ Day will also include a very special raffle – the Great Rock Raffle! The first three raffle prizes are made of granite and valued at over $2000: they are a coloured, painted granite wall etching, a granite coffee table and a granite bench. In addition to these three prizes, ticket holders will also have a chance to win a one-night stay at the Domaine les Boisés Lee Farm in Stanstead, a beautiful ancestral home that once belonged to the family of Lady Banting, wife of Dr. Frederick Banting.

Tickets for the raffle are $2 each, three for $5 or ten for only $10. They are now available at Townshippers’ Association’s head office and at the Stanstead Town Hall, but will also be sold on T-Day at the information booth.

The drawing for these prizes will take place in Stanstead, at 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 17, 2011 on the T-Day entertainment stage. For more information about the Great Rock Raffle, please contact Jessica Fraser at 819-566-5717 (toll free: 1-877-566-5717).
