Press BookStanstead to Host Townshippers’ Day 2011!
Sherbrooke, April 20, 2011. Townshippers’ Association is pleased to announce that the municipality of Stanstead has been chosen to host this year’s Townshippers’ Day festivities. This popular annual event, which brings together members of the English-speaking community of the Eastern Townships, is scheduled for Saturday, September 17, 2011. On this day, visitors will have the opportunity to explore the municipality of Stanstead and enjoy the food, entertainment and exhibits that traditionally accompany Townshippers’ Day. As was the case in 2010, a $2 entrance donation will be collected from all visitors.
Townshippers’ Association’s Executive Director, Ingrid Marini, said that she is “very encouraged by the municipality’s enthusiasm and accumulated years of experience in organizing events such as Townshippers’ Day and Border Fest. This experience is sure to make for a diverse and very successful celebration!”
The 2011 T-Day committee’s first meeting was held on Wednesday, April 6, 2011. Members of the T-Day 2011 Organizing Committee present at the first meeting included: Mr. Philippe Dutil, Mayor of Stanstead; Jody Stone, Town Councillor and Chair of the T-Day Organizing Committee; Mr. Jim Runciman, the town’s Fire Chief; Marise Trépannier, Recreational Coordinator for the Municipality of Stanstead; Lyne Wood, of the CAB Rediker; Jeanne d’Arc Clowery of the Colby Curtis Museum and Mr. Robert Sheldon, of GranitExpo. Townshippers’ Association representatives were also present, including Kate Wisdom, Community and Culture Coordinator, and Ingrid Marini, Executive Director, as well as Mr. Jim Kanner and Mr. Salim Hashmi, members of the Association’s Board of Directors.
This year’s Townshippers’ Day will mark the 32nd anniversary of this beloved annual event. Each year, Townshippers’ Day is hosted by a different community in the Eastern Townships. In 2010, thousands of visitors gathered in the town of Danville to celebrate the vitality of the Eastern Townships’ English-speaking community under blue, sunny skies.
