Sherbrooke, April 28, 2010. Townshippers’ Association is calling out to local artisans, businesses, community groups and other exhibitors who would like to participate in this year’s Townshippers’ Day in Danville.

Townshippers’ Day is a bilingual festival of friendship offering music, dance, art, activities, artisans, information booths and healthy fare and fun for all ages, types and tastes. Townshippers’ Day 2010 takes place September 17-18 in Danville and will help celebrate the town’s 150th anniversary. To highlight both celebrations, this year’s theme is “Celebrate the Townships and Danville’s 150th / Fêtons les Cantons et le 150e de Danville”. The celebrations begin with a special arts gala on Friday evening, followed by exhibits and entertainment on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

This year’s Organizing Committee chairperson, Robert McKeage, said, “we are excited to be part of Townshippers’ Day and really glad to take part in Danville’s 150th.” To mark Danville’s 150th anniversary, there will be heritage tables displaying Danville’s history in photos and a table dedicated to the history of the Asbestos-Danville Railroad. Mckeage invites heritage, community groups and artisans from across the Eastern Townships get involved in Townshipper’s Day and join in the celebrations.

Celebrating both Townshippers’ Day and Danville’s 150th birthday also gives community and heritage groups an ideal opportunity to share information, conduct fundraising and meet with thousands of Townshippers, English and French. Last year’s Townshippers’ Day, held in Ayer’s Cliff, marked Townshippers’ Association’s 30th anniversary and attracted close to 8,000 visitors.

Deadlines to register are July 31 for businesses and community groups, and June 30 for artisans. Please don’t wait until the last minute as places will go quickly!
