Welcome to Townshippers' Day!
This year's Townshippers' Day festivities will take place in the beautiful municipality of Stanstead Quebec, on Saturday, September 17.
Did You Know… It has been fifteen years since the last time the town of Stanstead hosted T-Day and, in the meantime, Stanstead has undergone a downtown makeover and experienced a strong revival of local culture and events. In 2010 and 2011, the town gained nationwide attention for the construction of its brand-new Pat Burns arena, which will officially open the week after T-Day. In addition to this, a number of local entrepreneurs are helping not only to restore some of the town’s old-fashioned architecture to beauty and prestige, but also to build some impressive new structures in this interesting (and active) border town. Two such sites will be prominently featured on T-Day: the Pat Burns Arena and the Manoir Stanstead.
Stanstead Manor Andre Fratelli, an enthusiastic entrepreneur who recently purchased the Ursulines’ Convent, has renovated the centuries-old building, breathing new life into it. His newly-opened Manoir Stanstead – now a seniors’ residence – will provide the main site for the Townshippers’ Day opening ceremonies. This activity, as well as the Murder Mystery dinner taking place on the Friday night before, will be hosted in the gorgeous chapel of this elegant and affordable residence.
Pat Burns Arena Kraft’s Hockeyville Canada competition last year resulted in nationwide publicity for the town of Stanstead and the Pat Burns Arena project. The local community rallied with an outpouring of support and community pride right up until the end. The new Pat Burns arena will be the main site and focal point of this year’s T-Day; its official opening will take place the week after Townshippers’ Day.
